La Restinga lagoon

A mangrove national park, with a shell beach on the far side.

Motorboats leave the La Restinga jetty, thread the mangrove channels and drop you on a very long sandbar made of crushed shells, open to the sea. The crossing takes about twenty minutes and the boatmen name the channels as they go. On the beach side there are shacks where people who came for the afternoon eat.
