The Virgen del Valle is patron of fishermen and of the whole east of the country, and her pink-towered basilica is the most visited place on Margarita among Venezuelans themselves. Every September the town fills for her feast. Beside it a museum holds the offerings people have left over centuries: model ships, braids of hair, crutches, and a famous pearl shaped like a leg.
