Battle of Matasiete monument

On 31 July 1817 Margarita’s forces defeated the royalist troops on the slopes of Matasiete hill. The monument, near La Asunción, commemorates that battle, one of those that shaped independence in the east of the country. It takes minutes to visit and makes full sense if you have climbed the hill first.
