Los Frailes are a handful of rocky islets northeast of Margarita, uninhabited and undeveloped. Underwater the rock drops away in clean walls and visibility is the best in the region. There is hard coral, moray eels, turtles and, with luck, schools of jack big enough to block out the sun. Boats leave from Playa El Tirano and the crossing alone is worth it.
